Wild Turkey at Palo Duro Canyon

Palo Duro Canyon State Park is a little over an hour’s drive south of my home (as opposed to Palo Duro Reservoir, which is about an hour’s drive north of where I live, and another good birding site in the panhandle of Texas.)  They have several hiking trails around the canyon that are pretty good places to see birds, but I didn’t really have a lot of time this morning so I just stopped at the bird blind behind the gift shop and took a few photos.  There was a small flock of Wild Turkey including a tom in full breeding plumage.  He had a face only a mother could love, although it was colorful.

    • Thanks Mia, I wondered if he was going to attack me a few times, he just kept coming in closer, shaking his tail-feathers and clucking until I ducked in behind the blind wall.
