Overcast Morning at Thompson Park

My wife and I stopped by Thompson Park in Amarillo one morning in the last week of October. It was a dreary day that matched our mood and we wanted another quiet moment before facing the trials of the day. We had heard of a Western Grebe on the big pond at the park and we stopped to have a look.  The light, such as it was, was behind the birds and the photos weren’t the greatest, but here they are.

The Western Grebe is a little unusual around here, but we do see them occasionally during migration.  This one was in the company of Wood Ducks and Ruddy Ducks as they preened.Western Grebe and Ruddy Duck (8) (1024x598) Western Grebe and Ruddy Duck (7) (1024x653) Western Grebe and Ruddy Duck (6) (1024x647) Western Grebe and Ruddy Duck (4) (1024x663) Western Grebe and Ruddy Duck (3) (1024x647) Western Grebe and Ruddy Duck (2) (1024x708) Western Grebe, Ruddy Duck, and Wood Duck (1024x707) Western Grebe, Ruddy Duck, and Wood Duck (4) (1024x708) Western Grebe, Ruddy Duck, and Wood Duck (2) (1024x670) Western Grebe, Ruddy Duck (1024x700)
