A Northern Flicker and a Least Sandpiper at Spring Canyon

Northern Flickers are year round birds in this part of the Texas Panhandle. I see more of the yellow-shafted variety in the summer and the red-shafted race in the winter. I’m not sure why. Here’s a red-shafted Northern Flicker at Spring Canyon a few weeks ago. Northern Flicker (red-shfted) (1) (1024x687) Northern Flicker (red-shfted) (2) (1024x666)

Least Sandpipers are spring and fall migrants. This one was grubbing for breakfast one morning in early October.Least Sandpiper (35) (1024x660) Least Sandpiper (34) (1024x698) Least Sandpiper (33) (1024x658) Least Sandpiper (32) (1024x684) Least Sandpiper (1) (1024x684)
