Miscellany

Here’s yet another post to try to catch up a little. I go  birding almost daily, missing 2 or 3 days a week because of work and I usually take pictures. I’m not a very good photographer and rely mostly on luck and take hundreds of pictures each day, hoping that there will be a…

Birding from a Kayak

I didn’t let winter stop me from kayaking this year-I bought some cold water gear and have been getting out pretty regularly. It helps that it has been a pretty mild winter. Here’s a few pictures from a paddle last week. Green-winged Teal Great Blue Heron American Coot Northern Pintail Me in my cold water…

Birding Spring Canyon

Lake Meredith National Recreation Area’s Spring Canyon is one of my favorite places to take photos. The morning light is excellent and it is protected from the southwest winds by the dam.  There are several ponds and wetlands and all are fairly easily accessed. Here are a few photographs from earlier this week. Killdeer American…

Buffalo Lake NWR

Buffalo Lake NWR is a mostly dry lake bed in Randall Co in the Texas Panhandle. There is a large pond still on the southern end of the Reserve with a bird blind and a few trails on the northern end. We used to go out there when I was in college for keg parties…

Waterfowl

Spring Canyon has 4 ponds of differnt sizes, a half-mile long slough and acres and acres of wetlands. This spring has been one of the best for birds there since I started birding nearly 5 years ago. Heres a few of the waterfowl I saw out there last week. Northern Shoveler Common Merganser American Coot

A Few December Photographs

I’ve been kind of lazy about posting the last few weeks, so now I’m trying to catch up. Here’s some photos from December. Rock Wren Greater Roadrunner Ladder-backed Woodpecker Red-tailed Hawk (a dark morph juvenile) American Tree Sparrow American Coot Pied-billed Grebe

Catching up

I haven’t posted in a few weeks so I thought I’d catch up with a pretty large photo dump. I’ve been birding quite a lot but for some reason can’t seem to bring myself to do the drudge work of editing and posting. Meredith is up over 64 feet for the first time in nearly…
