Late April and Early May

Here’s a few pictures that I didn’t get around to posting from late April and the first part of May, before we took off for Missouri. All were photographed around Lake Meredith except for the Cedar Waxwing and the Red-tailed Hawk which was at Palo Duro Reservoir and the Dickcissels, White-faced Ibis, and Black-crowned Night-Heron…

Waterfowl

Spring Canyon has 4 ponds of differnt sizes, a half-mile long slough and acres and acres of wetlands. This spring has been one of the best for birds there since I started birding nearly 5 years ago. Heres a few of the waterfowl I saw out there last week. Northern Shoveler Common Merganser American Coot

Roadrunners, Woodpeckers, Teals, and Gulls

Last week was really a pretty nice week for birding in the Texas Panhandle. I saw a lot of birds and roamed over a large chunk of the central Texas panhandle.  The weather was pretty nice and I had good company when I wanted it and made a few solo runs when I wanted that.…

Catching up

I haven’t posted in a few weeks so I thought I’d catch up with a pretty large photo dump. I’ve been birding quite a lot but for some reason can’t seem to bring myself to do the drudge work of editing and posting. Meredith is up over 64 feet for the first time in nearly…

Playas

Earlier this week we had 4 inches of rain fall in about 30 hours and some of the playa lakes in the area that have been dry for over a year finally have a little water in them. It didn’t take the birds long to find them and I was able to get some nice photos,…

Fall Birds

I’m finally starting to see some waterfowl around Lake Meredith. Unfortunately, since the lake is up 20 feet from last year this time, it is nearly impossible to get good shots of them.  The current water level puts the south end of the lake (where most water birds like to stay because of the shallows…

Duck, Duck, Goose

I took a few photos at a park in Amarillo a few days ago.  I had stopped there on a whim as I was running a few errands. For some reason ducks and geese have been scarce at Meredith for the last several weeks.  I saw more waterfowl here and at McGee Lake just northeast…

More Photos from 2013

Here’s a few more photos from the last 5 or 6 weeks of 2013.  I failed my resolve to post more often. I could cite a number of reasons but they would just be rationalizations.   Basically, I’m just lazy and there are too many things to do instead of this.  I go out birding…

Panhandle Spring

Spring is in full swing here in the Texas Panhandle.  I wish that meant April showers and May flowers but mostly it just means wind.  Heat also, wind and heat.  Unless it’s cold, then it means wind and cold.  Dry, don’t forget dry, as in windy and dry, really, really dry.  How dry is it,…
