Wilson’s Warbler

Birding has been a little slow the last month or so, but it brightened considerably this morning at Palo Duro Canyon. Amidst all the regulars at the blind was this Wilson’s Warbler, a female I think, and she is a cutie.

Last of Last Year’s Photos

Here’s the last of the photographs from 2016. I’m finally getting caught up a bit. All photos were taken at Lake Meredith (unless otherwise noted) in late November and December. Yellow-rumped Warbler

I wandered a little further than normal last week and ended up at a small lake about 85 miles northwest of my home. Rita Blanca Lake is in northern Hartley Co. just outside the town of Dalhart. I grew up in Dalhart and graduated high school from there a long, long time ago. The town…

Catching up

I haven’t posted in a few weeks so I thought I’d catch up with a pretty large photo dump. I’ve been birding quite a lot but for some reason can’t seem to bring myself to do the drudge work of editing and posting. Meredith is up over 64 feet for the first time in nearly…

Early Fall

The last few weeks have been a little hectic for me and I haven’t been able to go birding as much as I want. It seems that the days that I could get out were dark and dreary days with heavy clouds and lots of rain.  The rain was pretty wide-spread and Meredith certainly benefited…

Vacation

We took a short trip up through Colorado last week,1300 miles driving, 14 miles hiking and sight-seeing (according to my pedometer) 3 new birds for my life list, 6 new craft beers tasted, 1 brewery toured, 1 mountain , 2 motels, 4 days and 3 nights with 1 wife and 4 grown kids, 0 murders.…

Yellow Warbler

I saw a couple of Yellow Warblers at Spring Canyon this morning. I had just gotten off work, it was a little cool and the only jacket I had was a bright yellow safety jacket, not the best color to wear birding, but he didn’t seem to mind. I was able to get pretty close…

Yellow-rumped Warbler

Warblers have been migrating through for the last couple of weeks. Yellow-rumped Warblers are the only ones I’ve been able to photograph, but I’ve seen Common Yellowthroats and a Yellow-breasted Chat, and Yellow Warblers as well. There should be a few others that come through as well-I’ve seen Orange-crowned and Wilson’s and even a Palm Warbler…

New Arrivals, Migrants, and Lingerers

I’m starting to see more newly arrived winter birds and some migrants as well.  After an especially miserable Sunday at work (every time we had a call the truck we were in broke down. By the time I left at 0700 Monday morning we had one truck that was running, but you couldn’t shut it…
